Indispensable for use in treacherous weather conditions, snow chains make it possible for the motorist to navigate roads and tracks that would simply be impassable without them. Snow chains are available in a variety of designs, of which cable chains are perhaps the most common. Any driver who lives in an area likely to be affected by winter weather cannot afford to be without them, as they make life a lot easier.
Cable tire chains have the benefit to being light and relatively economical, and are relatively easy to attach to your tires. When purchasing snow chains, make sure they are suitable for your vehicle and that they fit properly. In particular, ensure that there is enough clearance between the tire and fender. Snow chains are easy to fit to your vehicle’s tires and fairly quick to remove, as well. They work by increasing the traction of your tires, giving them grip on snow and ice where the surface of a tire would simply not be able to do. However, the flip side of this is that snow chains are not suitable for driving on bare road surfaces, as they can cause damage to the asphalt, and reduce the life of your chains. Indeed, in some states this is an offense, so check up on the rules before you travel, and take the time to remove your snow chains before driving on regular roads. It’s important, too, to drive cautiously when using snow chains; keep under 30 mph and don’t accelerate or brake too suddenly. |
