Many people find that home equity loans can allow them to ‘live the good life’ for a while. Vacations or parties are what a lot of people spend money from home equity loans on, but that’s just not a very good thing. This is a list of things not to spend the money from home equity loans on, and why. - Vacations are a big no-no. Although it may seem wonderful to vacation in Japan or Hawaii for a week or two, you’ll be paying it off for years, and it adds no equity to your home. Although a vacation may sound nice, you might end up regretting it.
- Clothes and jewelry aren’t something you should even considering spending the money from home equity loans on. It’s not practical, and although ‘a diamond is forever’, it won’t add anything to your home. - Luxury cars just aren’t the greatest thing to spend the money from home equity loans on, however alluring it might be. I’m sure you’ve dreamed of owning a BMW, or some other expensive, attractive car, but do you really want to be paying for it ten or twenty years from now? Home equity loans should be used for things that improve the equity of your home – remodeling the kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom, adding siding, a new roof and windows, or landscaping the property are all wonderful examples. You should attempt to add to the equity of your home, so you don’t end up with an underwater mortgage, which is when your home equity loans equal more than the equity of your home. It makes it extremely hard to refinance, and resell your house. You often have a very hard time recouping the money lost. Always be careful spending what you take out, and don’t take more money out than you can pay, for you could end up losing your house and ruining your credit. |
