Why Should You Buy Your Own Check Printer Print E-mail
Monday, 25 December 2006

If you have a business that has employees, it may be worth it to look into purchasing a check printer.  Check printers can print thousands and thousands of checks quickly and easily, using an easy-to-use computer program, a quality laser printer, blank check stock and information for the checks.

A laser printer is a staple in any office environment of today, and if you have purchased a quality printer, you can print off your own checks.  This means you can do your payroll in house without having to pay a payroll company to do so.  You can utilize staff that you already have on hand to accomplish this task.  Using a check printer and check printing software is very easy-anyone can do it.

You can purchase blank check stock from many retailers both online and at office supply stores.  You can also purchase blank check stock from your financial institution.  It is important to remember to have check stock that has built in security features so that you don’t become the victim of check fraud. There are many types of security features available, and the more security features on the check stock you purchase, the more expensive it is, but the safer you are from check fraud.

You can use your quality laser printer to print checks in your office.  From there, you can print off your payroll checks, checks to clients or utility companies and have it all logged in the computer program that handles your check writing.  Many of the programs have a built in budget system to keep track of your finances and the checks you write automatically.

What Should You Look for When Buying a Check Printer?

When you are buying a printer to print checks, there are a few things that you must consider before you purchase the check printer.  One of the first things you need to look at is quality.  For a check printer, you need a high quality laser printer that is capable of printing in high resolution.  If you will be writing many checks, or checks of large amounts, such as payroll for your company, you may want to consider buying a laser check printer that has toner grip—a chemical coating that prevents the ink from being removed or changed.

Laser printers for checks are not inexpensive by any means—they are quite pricey, but are easy to take care of. The toner cartridges are also quite expensive; however you can print thousands and thousands of checks with one toner cartridge before they need to be replaced.

If you buy a less expensive laser printer, then you will definitely get what you pay for.  Chances are, the cheaper check printers do not have toner grip which could lead to incidences of check fraud.  You will want to protect yourself at all costs, including using blank check stock that is of high quality.  The higher the quality of check stock and the higher quality the printer, the less likely you are to fall victim to check fraud.

Compare models at a local office supply store or online.  You will want to compare each laser check printer for function and price.  If your laser check printer is capable of printing even more methods of security, such as micro printing, the printer is even more valuable and will further help prevent check fraud.
